Schedules: Supporting documents
SCHEDULE CHANGE MANAGMENT
Two issues stand out where the quality and accuracy of schedules are concerned. The first is the assumptions and technical analysis to arrive at representative activity durations and strategies. Scheduling software does provide some functionality to handle this, but this is usually done in a separate document for flexibility and presentation – a basis of schedule document.
The second issue is changes to the schedule, which may cause much confusion if not controlled and documented. The following changes to a project schedule should ideally be authorized by the project manager, and documented:
- Changes to schedule logic. If omissions to schedule logic or erroneous logic affects milestone dates, this should be formally communicated to all project stakeholders.
- When schedules are baselined or re-baselined.
- When important scope changes occur, and activities are added or removed.
- When changes to the schedule impacts on the accuracy of progress reports
