Project Portfolio Management
ENTERPRISE PROJECT STRUCTURE
Often one organization or enterprise will have a portfolio of projects managed by different departments. In such a case, it is necessary to define a wider project structure which may contain a range of projects. These projects will fit into an Enterprise Project Structure (EPS), and the hierarchical relationship between the different projects needs to be defined clearly, authorization trails outlined, communication channels created, and reporting chains established.
Since the book is focusing on two specific project scheduling software packages (P6 and MSP), it is necessary to define these structures in terms of these software packages. This definition is done in broad terms – since dedicated training for these packages is beyond the scope of the book.
